The Cleveland Guardians are in trouble as the Detroit Tigers take a 2-1 lead in the division series with a 3-0 win at home. Radio host and CM contributor Dennis Manoloff breaks down the team’s “offensive” offense and more in his three takeaways.
Here are DMan's three takeaways from the Oct. 9 matchup:
Takeaway One: History is against the Guardians.
With 73% of teams that win Game 3 in a tied best-of-five series advancing, the odds are not in Cleveland's favor. "The Guardians are in trouble, serious trouble," says Manoloff.
Takeaway Two: The offense is offensive.
The Guardians' bats have gone quiet since their Game 1 outburst, failing to capitalize against a bullpen game and leaving them unable to score consistently. "Ultimately you
just cannot win a series when you can't score," says Manoloff.
Takeaway Three: The Tigers are earning it.
Detroit, despite being a wild card team, has outperformed the Guardians in every aspect, putting
them one win away from the AL Championship Series. "They've outplayed Cleveland to this point," says Manoloff. "They've out-pitched them. They've defended. They've slightly outmanaged."
