Akron is a burger town — and now, it has a great new option out of Cleveland.

Good Company, the chef-driven, All-American joint centered around burgers and wings, opens today 40 miles south of its home base in Cleveland's Battery Park neighborhood. It's the first expansion to Akron for Buildings and Foods, which acquired Good Company in 2022

Good Company Akron

“We’re so excited to be back in Akron," says Buildings and Foods CEO Will Hollingsworth. "We can’t wait to introduce Akronites to the best chicken wings and cheeseburgers on earth.”

When Brett Sawyer opened Good Company in 2019, few expected the man behind The Plum — the now-defunct purveyor of funky fine dining on Ohio City's Lorain Avenue — to open a straightforward diner concept. Except, there was more than meets the eye.

Good Company Akron Wings

Dishes like the Gabagool sandwich or the, which was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in 2022, relied on house-cured capicola ham, Italian-dressed shredded lettuce, house sauces and homemade buns. That in-house bakery grew to supply other restaurants and paired perfectly with a full-time pastry team pumping out ice cream, cheese cake and more. And don't ignore the wings, which marinate in dry-spices for two days before spending a third day being braised and fried.

That same chef-driven approach is expected at the new Akron location, which will offer the same menu of burgers, fries, wings, sandwiches, milkshakes and desserts in a family friendly atmosphere with a full-service bar. The building on Maple Street was originally designed to be a Spotted Owl cocktail bar, the now-dormant first concept from Buildings and foods.

The restaurant is open every day but Wednesday starting at 4 p.m. Pro tip: Save room for dessert — or take some home.
