We keep shuffling the deck for name cards on our city’s sports fields. Last year, the Browns renamed their stadium to Huntington Bank FieldNow, the latest is Rocket Arena, the new name for the Cavaliers’ home arena.

Rock Entertainment Group announced this morning the change from Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse as part of the 30th anniversary of the facility in Downtown.

“Guided by Chairman Dan Gilbert’s vision, we are committed to making a positive impact on our communities, clients and fans. For 30 years, Rocket Arena has been a cornerstone of Cleveland, showcasing the energy and vibrancy of Northeast Ohio,” said Nic Barlage, CEO of Rock Entertainment Group, the Cavaliers and Rocket Arena. “By hosting unforgettable sports and entertainment moments, we’ve united people across the region and beyond. As we enter this new chapter, we’re focused on elevating every aspect of the Rocket Arena experience and bringing Cleveland to the world.”

In 1994, Rocket Arena opened its doors as Gund Arena. After Gilbert acquired the Cavs in 2005, the area was renamed Quicken Loans Arena. After undergoing a $185M transformation in 2019, the arena unveiled its new name as the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

Now coming up on its 30th anniversary, the venue continues to evolve under a new name that “reflects a continued commitment to innovation, fan engagement and community impact.”

Rocket Arena is also home to the Cleveland Monsters of the  American Hockey League.

By the way, the Guardians have played at Progressive Field since 2008 when they changed the name from Jacobs Field.
